Augmented Reality (AR), has proved why it holds so much value in our lives along with other Future Advancements in Mobile App Development like IOT, Chatbots, Blockchain, Wearables, Artificial Intelligence, etc. All these terms come to our mind when we think of the future of Mobile App Development. Mobile App Industry is taking off like a jet. And still, it has to go a long way. Rise of Smartphone Users, internet connectivity and Mobile Apps, these three terms changes the way we used to live. Now every possible task is being done via a Smartphone. People are doing transactions in billions online. Whether it be ordering food sitting at your couch, booking a taxi in just three taps onto your Mobile Screen, buying anything from groceries to clothes to industrial supplies, these technologies are taking over us. But if you are thinking that now everything has come, you have to wake up. There are technologies that will control a human being in every possible way it can. One of those is Augmented Reality. You remember almost three years back, a game went live on App Stores and people went crazy about it. Yes! You got it right. Pokémon Go. This game implemented Augmented Reality where we can see Pokémon roaming around us in our real life and we had to catch them by throwing a ball. But are they real? Yes? No? Confused? Well, they aren’t for sure. That’s the magic Augmented Reality does. And that was just one Augmented Reality Application. Today, we will talk about some cool applications of Augmented Reality which can or will amaze the world and will change the way we are living our lives right now.
What is Augmented Reality (AR)?
Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology which superimposes virtual objects and information inside the real world in which we are living in real time scenarios. Let’s understand with an example, suppose you have a Smartphone with Camera Open pointing to a tree which has no fruits. Now what Augmented Reality can do is it can overlay virtual fruits to that tree and it will look like the fruits are hanging on the branches of that tree. Getting it? You will! just read this article to the last. Companies have already started investing a huge amount of money in Augmented Reality. Developers are creating apps with Augmented Reality, using it in different ways such that now it has a huge audience and it is getting broader and broader. We have also seen how Ikea used Augmented Reality. If you don’t know, let me tell you that on their app, whenever you are browsing the products they provide, you have an option over there which will put that exact product to your real life scene. Ikea sells furniture, so with Augmented Reality, it can put that Table or Chair or whatever you want to buy into your living room such that you can have an idea of how it will look like after you buy it and actually put it there. That’s fantastic, isn’t it? And that is just a demo of it. We will see a lot of it in the near future. Augmented Reality is of three types: Marker-based, Markerless and Location based. Don’t mix up Augmented Reality with Virtual Reality. They both are different.
FUTURE APPLICATIONS OF AUGMENTED REALITY
Augmented Reality in Healthcare
Augmented Reality in Gaming
Augmented Reality in Interior Designing
Augmented Reality in Navigation
Augmented Reality in Education
AR IN HEALTHCARE:
Augmented Reality will change the healthcare industry. It can change the way education will be delivered in the healthcare industry. Diagrams can be explained in a more effective way, all the surgeries will be shown using augmented reality such that it will look real but at the same time we know that it is not. It helps in better understanding. Then the workers in healthcare can learn a large amount of information about the anatomy and the other human body processes.
Doctors can showcase the surgeries, our body functions and other treatment-related information to the patient. They can easily make the patients more comfortable by making them understand the working processes of medicines, how they dissolve in our body and perform. And when the patients get this information, it will surely help them to heal quickly.
Augmented Reality will soon become an integral part of the healthcare industry. It will improve accuracy when operating as it delivers three-dimensional representations.
AccuVein is a great example of using Augmented Reality in the healthcare industry. It helps the healthcare workers find the veins of a patient as it projects the patient’s veins onto his/her skin.
Less monitoring devices will be used as most of the information and data will be displayed by this technology.
AR IN GAMING:
Augmented Reality in Gaming isn’t a new thing. There are lots of games based on augmented reality. But, this is the initial phase. We have seen some amazing games, augmented reality games, like Pokémon Go, Temple Treasure Hunt and more. These games had already created a buzz in the mobile gaming industry. Pokémon Go achieved a whopping 45 million active users playing the game in a single month in 2016. But as I said, this has just started. We will see much more in the augmented reality gaming in the near future.
AR IN INTERIOR DESIGNING:
There are plenty of applications of Augmented Reality in interior designing. The definition and scenario of interior designing will completely change in the future with Augmented Reality. As we have discussed how IKEA implemented Augmented Reality and created a buzz in the industry. Interior designers make sketches and images to showcase how the future design will look like. But with Augmented Reality, there will be visuals directly on your phone or tab screen wherein, all the things can be seen in real life. You can place a sofa directly on your couch and take the decision whether it is looking cool or not, whether it will fit there or not. This much advancements will revolutionize the interior designing. We can customize the furniture’s color in the app, and finalize the design we need straight away from the app.
AR IN NAVIGATION:
Navigation is a technology that will change totally with the use of Augmented Reality. Getting directions on maps, searching for places nearby, all will change. Maps will draw our directions onto the real world. The visualization is the key. Technology will come such that if we are passing by a restaurant, the app will show its menu and address. This is just an example, there lots more that will be going to happen. Google has already started working on it. It is committed to making Augmented Reality a part of it in the future. And as we know how big Google’s presence in the market is, Google will make it a part of our future too.
AR IN EDUCATION:
Augmented Reality (AR) will soon change the typical learning process of education. Nowadays, almost everyone owns a smartphone. We know that 80% of the world’s population owns a mobile and most of them are active users who play games, use social media apps, do payments online on a regular basis. The educational system used nowadays is getting a bit boring. To improve that, there came some apps, educational apps such as Byju’s, Udemy and others, they changed the way people are getting education up to some extent. They made everything digital, on a smartphone via mobile apps. But Augmented Reality will change everything. When students visualize everything they are learning, it will increase their interest in education. The ability to connect digital content with books is improving. Consider a situation where you are sitting in a classroom and having a science class. Now the teacher wants to make you understand the law of motion that how something will be in motion. Now, with Augmented Reality, the same can be understood by putting the moving object in front of you, maybe on the teacher’s table, where you can see the moving object in the real world. Imagine how quickly you will learn and the best part is that you will never forget that in your life. Because with AR, more practical teaching will there rather just reading the theory.
